Disney+ wordt een kindvriendelijke streamingdienst waarbij de nadruk niet op kwantiteit maar op kwaliteit ligt. Dit betekent dat films en series van bijvoorbeeld FOX en ABC niet via Disney+ worden aangeboden.
Disney+ baas Kevin Mayer maakte dit op de Disneyfandag D23 bekend. Hij maakte ook diverse titels bekend die vanaf 12 november bij Disney+ beschikbaar zijn. Hieronder bevindt zich ook een remake van de Disney klassieker Lady en de Vagebond. Direct na het bioscoop-window komt ook het kassucces The Lion King (remake) op Disney+ beschikbaar. Verder zijn nieuwe series van Marvel, Star Wars en personages die in deze series spelen aangekondigd. Toch is Disney bij de streamingdienst niet van plan om de nadruk op de hoeveelheid content te leggen. Volgens Mayer moet Disney+ vooral een kwalitatieve kindvriendelijke streamingdienst worden.
Hulu
Op Disney+ is alleen content afkomstig van Disney, Pixel, Marvel, StarWars en National Geographic beschikbaar. Film en series van bijvoorbeeld ABC, FOX en 21th Century worden via Hulu aangeboden. Hulu is eveneens eigendom van The Walt Disney Company en is op dit moment alleen in Amerika beschikbaar. Disney+ baas Mayer sluit echter niet uit dat Hulu in de toekomst in andere landen wordt uitgerold. Dit betekent natuurlijk wel dat weer een extra abonnement gekocht dient te worden om naar content van onder meer ABC en FOX te kunnen kijken.

Als online streamingdienst Disney+ op 12 november in Nederland verschijnt, kunnen abonnees naar minimaal 500 titels kijken. Dit is veel minder dan Netflix.
The Walt Disney Company maakt steeds meer over de eigen nieuwe streamingdienst Disney+ openbaar. Het abonnement is relatief goedkoop. Voor een maandabonnement moet in Nederland €6,99 betaald worden. Een goedkoper jaarabonnement komt voor €69,99 op de markt. Wellicht de grootste tegenvaller is dat Disney+ een kindvriendelijke streamingdienst wordt. Dit betekent dat films en series van Disney-bedrijfsonderdelen ABC, FOX, FX en andere onderdelen van 21th Century niet via Disney+ aangeboden worden. Hiervoor schuift Disney online streamingdienst Hulu naar voren. Hulu is op dit moment alleen in Amerika verkrijgbaar maar de verwachting is dat na de introductie van Disney+ ook Hulu in meer landen – en dus waarschijnlijk ook in Nederland – beschikbaar komt. Mogelijk dat Disney, net als in Amerika het geval wordt, combinatiebundels van Disney+ en Hulu gaat verkopen.
Films en series
Disney belooft dat bij de marktintroductie van Disney+ minimaal 500 titels films en series voor abonnees beschikbaar zullen zijn. De content wordt in de best mogelijke beeldkwaliteit geleverd. In meerdere gevallen is dit 4K Ultra HD. Disney levert bij het Disney+ abonnement gelijktijdig kijken op vier apparaten. Verder kunnen per abonnement maximaal zeven gebruikersprofielen aangemaakt worden. Disney heeft wel aangekondigd een actief beleid tegen het delen van abonnementen te gaan voeren.

The Walt Disney Company wil van de nieuwe streamingdienst kost wat het kost een succes maken. Het draait concurrent Netflix nog voor het officiële begin de duimschroeven aan.
Wie namelijk in Amerika een abonnement voor twee jaar koopt, krijgt het derde jaar gratis. Dit betekent feitelijk dat voor een bedrag van 140 dollar drie jaar lang gebruik van de online streamingdienst Disney+ gebruik gemaakt kan worden. De actie die op internet door Disney werd gepresenteerd. Dit zorgde direct dat de internetsite overbelast raakte en crashte.
Disney+ in Nederland
Disney+ komt in Nederland gelijk met Amerika en Canada op 12 november op de markt. Of de actie met een gratis jaar kijken ook in Nederland door Disney gaat aangeboden worden, is op dit moment niet bekend. Disney+ begint met minimaal 500 titels die in de best mogelijke beeldkwaliteit aan abonnees aangeboden gaat worden. In sommige gevallen is de content in 4K Ultra HD te bekijken.

Disney is in Nederland begonnen met het aanbieden van een gratis probeerversie van zijn streamingdienst. Er zijn apps beschikbaar voor Disney+ en de dienst is via de browser te gebruiken. Na twee maanden moeten gebruikers betalen.
De probeerversie is alleen in Nederland beschikbaar. Aanmelden is mogelijk via de website en via de Disney+-app voor Android of voor iOS en tvOS. Ook zijn er er apps voor de PlayStation 4, de Xbox One en voor LG-tv's met webOS. Bij het aanmelden moet een betaalmethode worden opgegeven, maar voor de proefperiode van twee maanden hoeft niet te worden betaald.
Tijdens de proefperiode is er een beperkt aanbod van films en series beschikbaar die al eerder zijn uitgebracht. De series die exclusief voor de Disney+ worden gemaakt komen pas vanaf 12 november naar de streamingdienst. Een abonnement kost dan 7 euro per maand of 70 euro per jaar.
Films en series zijn vanuit de browser te bekijken, maar niet te downloaden. Dat kan wel vanuit de Android- en iOS-apps. Met één account is het mogelijk om zeven profielen te maken en er kunnen gelijktijdig vier streams bekeken worden.

SVOD-dienst Disney+ is al actief in Nederland. Dat meldt de Direct-to-Consumer & International divisie van The Walt Disney Company. Mensen kunnen zich aanmelden voor een gratis proefperiode die loopt tot en met de eerder aangekondigde officiële lanceerdatum in Nederland, op 12 november 2019. Daarna kost een abonnement EUR 6,99 per maand.
Hiervoor krijgen abonnees content van Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars en National Geographic. Tijdens de proefperiode gaat het om een selectie van films en series uit de Disney+ collectie. Voorbeelden zijn Avengers: Infinity War, The Lion King, Black Panther, Beauty & The Beast, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Incredibles 2 en Frozen. De proefperiode is bedoeld om het platform technisch te optimaliseren vóór de officiële lancering van Disney+ op 12 november.
Actief handhaven
Elke film en serie is te downloaden en mensen kunnen tot op vier devices tegelijk in HD streamen. Er zijn tot zeven profielen aan te maken. Verder is er een apart kinderprofiel in te stellen. Disney+ gaat wel actief handhaven op het delen van een abonnement buiten het huishouden, zo werd eerder bekend.
Geschikte apparaten voor de streamingdienst zijn onder meer Android-tablets, -smartphones en -tv's, iPhone en iPad, Apple TV, Chromecast, XBox One en de PlayStation 4. Vanaf de lancering op 12 november zullen nog meer opties beschikbaar zijn.
Disney+ Originals
Vanaf 12 november zijn er ook Disney+ Originals te streamen. In het eerste jaar zal Disney+ meer dan 25 eigen series en 10 nieuwe films en documentaires releasen, waaronder de serie 'The Mandalorian' van uitvoerende producent en schrijver Jon Favreau en Lady en de Vagebond, een nieuwe uitvoering van de animatieklassieker uit 1955 – allebei te zien vanaf 12 november.
Abonnees schakelen vanaf 12 november automatisch over op een betaald abonnement en krijgen vervolgens toegang tot het volledige aanbod van Disney+ met de optie om op te zeggen wanneer ze willen.
Nederland eerste markt voor Disney+
In augustus werd bekend dat Disney voor haar streaming videodienst Nederland samen met de VS en Canada als eerste lanceermarkten kiest. Hierover was in maart al gespeculeerd - Nederland zou een goede testmarkt zijn - maar daarna bleef het stil.
Uit onderzoek van Telecompaper blijkt dat Disney+ een forse concurrent kan worden voor Netflix, dat voor streaming op vier devices in HD EUR 13,99 rekent. Ongeveer 1 op de 10 Nederlandse huishoudens wil wel een abonnement op de premium SVOD-dienst. Nog eens 29 procent overweegt een abonnement. Deels zal het om stapelen van abonnementen gaan. Van de 9 procent respondenten van het Consumer Insights-panel die aangeeft Disney+ inderdaad te willen gaan afnemen, geeft ruim de helft aan dit naast een bestaand VOD-abonnement te gaan doen.
Disney+ kondigde eind augustus op de Amerikaanse thuismarkt aan dat klanten bij een abonnement voor twee jaar het derde jaar gratis gebruik mogen maken van de dienst. Daarmee wordt de vanaf november beschikbare SVOD-dienst nog goedkoper dan Netflix. Disney+ is met EUR 6,99 per maand alvast goedkoper dan de meeste concurrenten en biedt daarbij standaard 4K-content zonder meerprijs aan. Een jaarabonnement kost EUR 69,99.
Kindvriendelijke content
Enkele maanden geleden maakte Disney-CEO Kevin Mayer bekend dat Disney+ een kindvriendelijke streamingdienst wordt, dus geen content van Fox of ABC, of andere films en series die bij kijkwijzer boven PG-13 gewaardeerd worden. Voor dergelijke content heeft het concern in de VS de streamingdienst Hulu die mogelijk in de toekomst ook in andere landen gelanceerd gaat worden.

Disney+, het nieuwe videostreamingplatform van Disney, zal in de zomer van dit jaar in België beschikbaar zijn. In Europa is de dienst momenteel enkel beschikbaar in Nederland.
Disney paste dinsdag de uitrolplannen van het platform aan. De lancering in het Verenigd Koninkrijk, Ierland, Frankrijk, Duitsland, Italië, Spanje, Oostenrijk en Zwitserland is momenteel gepland op 24 maart. Dat is een week vroeger dan aanvankelijk gepland. “Bijkomende West-Europese markten, waaronder België, Scandinavië en Portugal, zullen volgen in de zomer van 2020”, aldus het bedrijf nog in een persbericht.
In het persbericht bevestigt Disney dat de dienst 6,99 euro per maand zal kosten, of 69,99 euro voor een jaarabonnement. Bij de lancering zullen klanten toegang hebben tot onder meer de Star Wars-serie The Mandalorian en High School Musical: The Musical: The Series.
Disney+ lanceerde het platform midden november in de Verenigde Staten, Canada en Nederland. In 24 uur tijd stond de teller al op 10 miljoen abonnees. De dienst is daarna uitgebreid naar Nieuw-Zeeland, Australië en Puerto Rico.

De streamingdienst van Disney, Disney+, komt pas deze zomer naar ons land. Via dat platform biedt Disney verschillende populaire titels aan, zoals Star Wars en 'High School Musical'.
Momenteel is Nederland het enige Europese land waar kijkers al toegang hebben tot Disney+. Voor de rest is het platform enkel beschikbaar in de Verenigde Staten en Canada. Na één dag telde Disney+ al meer dan 10 miljoen gebruikers in die drie landen.
Vanaf 24 maart komt de dienst naar een groot deel van Europa zoals het Verenigd Koninkrijk, Frankrijk en Spanje, maar in België moeten we wachten tot de zomer.
Een jaarabonnement op Disney+ kost 69,99 euro. Per maand betaal je 6,99 euro.
