Philips is launching a Cloud TV app which gives access to hundreds of TV channels and Cloud Explorer to store personal media.
During a presentation at this year’s IFA in Berlin TP Vision CEO Maarten de Vries announced Philips TV 3.0, which will offer users from all Philips smart TVs from 2012 onwards with a number of cloud services.
The Cloud TV app is an over-the-top servicw, which will give access to hundreds of TV channels, which people can search and sort by favourite and themes.
Cloud TV offers both free-to-view and premium channels, local, national and international channels as well as niche and special interest channels.
“We have seamlessly integrated cloud services into our Philips Smart TV platform. Users can now benefit from an even wider selection of TV services and overcome the selected choice of cable TV services,” according to
Albert Mombarg, head of Smart TV.
Cloud Explorer is a storage solution for personal homes videos, music and pictures. The media will be stored in the cloud (on Dropbox) and can be accessed on the big screen as well as easily shared with others.
The new Coud Explorer app is immediately available via dedicated apps in many countries in Europe and in Russia as of now
De Vries also presented TP Vision’s top-of-the-line product, the 65″ model in the 9000 series, Ultra HD, which will retail at EUR4,999.00.
Broadband TV View. Streaming live TV channels to smart TV sets and adding cloud based storage of personal media is another step in the inevitable processes of making set-top boxes superfluous and threatening the business models of traditional platfroms such as cable, IPTV and satellite operators.
Most consumers will want to have a single TV set with a single remote control and not be bothered with different boxes for different purposes. This latest developetn in smart TV is the way forward to offer viewers such convenience.
Of course some adventurous platforms are already experimenting with STB-less soltion, such as TeliaSonera and Samsung, who showed an IPTV service directly connected to the TV set, at last year’s IBC and which is actually in place using an app on the Samsung set.
Another example is the Cloud TV service from Dutch cable operato Ziggo, which still requires a simple cable tuner, but which can be easily moved towards a smart TV set.
And just two days ago, Deutsche Telkom’s T-Labs has demoed its development of a virtual set top box.

Cloud Explorer is een opslagoplossing voor persoonlijk woningen video's , muziek en foto's . De media zullen worden opgeslagen in de cloud ( op Dropbox ) en kan worden geraadpleegd op het grote scherm , alsook gemakkelijk gedeeld met anderen .

De meeste consumenten willen een televisie met een afstandsbediening en niet lastig gevallen met verschillende vakken voor verschillende doeleinden hebben . Deze nieuwste developetn in Smart TV is de weg vooruit om de kijkers dergelijke gemak te bieden .
Natuurlijk een aantal avontuurlijke platformen zijn al experimenteren met STB - minder soltion , zoals TeliaSonera en Samsung , die een IPTV- dienst rechtstreeks aangesloten op de tv- set, toonde op IBC van vorig jaar en dat is eigenlijk op zijn plaats met behulp van een app op de Samsung set .
Een ander voorbeeld is de Cloud TV- service van Nederlandse kabelbedrijven operato Ziggo , die nog steeds vereist een eenvoudige kabel- tuner , maar die gemakkelijk kan worden verplaatst naar een slimme televisie .
En net twee dagen geleden , heeft Deutsche Telkom T - Labs zijn ontwikkeling van een virtuele set top box demonstreerde.

Binnenkort hoor je niet anders meer dan over die smart tv's.Ik heb er gisteren nog eens op bezig geweest en het is toch ongelooflijk wat je er allemaal mee kan doen.Zeker geen weg gegooid geld.
